Kids and Adults: A Grand Summer Adventure
(Bringing Adults and children together to share nature, experiences, stories, life.)

August 14 to18, 9 to 2

Ages 6 to 10, Adult

$175 each or $315 for 2; located on our private forest in Redmond

Wondering how to make and keep the connection between generations? Children long for the attention and the sense of adventure adults can offer; adults long to be connected (or re-connected) with children and their engaging curiosity.

Within a natural backdrop and through our exciting and challenging curriculum, children and adults will gain a solid familiarity with the forests around us. Through interesting games and local explorations we will learn how to hear the language of the forest, gather simple foods and medicines, and keep ourselves safe. Some of our time will be spent in separate groups where children can burn off their energy in creative and fun ways. This will provide an opportunity for Grandparents, Parents and Teachers to learn traditional mentoring skills the way that native societies have passed on their knowledge from generation to generation. When we join back together, it will be a wonderful opportunity to put our new skills to work as we share with each other our stories of adventure.

Knowing Your Place

Fall 2006

Adult

Join our team of experienced naturalists as we de-mystify the forest.  We will explore the plants and animals that are here at our doorstep.  Our program is for adults interested in understanding the natural world through class discussions and walks within our local woods.  We will focus on awareness of our surroundings and gain knowledge from the way the world's indigenous peoples lived.  Using a modern day context, our Saturday morning classes are for all ability levels and are taught by local area naturalists.  Our program will include understanding how plants, animals and the natural world work in concert, providing a greater knowledge of this world at the end of your street.

Join us on Saturday mornings, 8:30 a.m. to noon. Each session is $35 or $89 for the entire Fall Saturday Series.

Here are the dates of each session:

    • Saturday, September 16: Developing Awareness
Knowing to Notice. Develop a greater sensory acuity to nature, its patterns and rhythms
    • Saturday, October 21: Finding Home
Aidless Navigation. Learn how to wander without using a compass or getting lost
    • Saturday, November 11: Skills of an Elder, Part I
